It had been rumoured for a very long time that Apple would be releasing a miniaturised version of the iPad, At an event that recently took place in California they have made the announcement that they are releasing a 7.9 inch version of the device which is going to compete with other models on the market such as those by Google, and Amazon.

Unlike the larger version of the device, this iPad mini does not have a retina display, and it also doesn’t have the latest dual core processor that is seen in third-generation iPad. It is certainly no coincidence that the company have released this device in time for people to buy it for Christmas, and it is sure to be on many people’s Christmas list this year.

For those who’ve been wanting to get their hands on a more portable version of the iPad, this piece of technology is not going to disappoint. It weighs in at just over 300 grams, and is only 7.2 millimetres thick. This makes the other competitors in the market look positively overweight when compared to this incredibly small device from Apple.

As you would expect from Apple, the device has a very good build quality, and it seems as if it will be able to take the odd bump. The design has also got a curved back which means that it is going to be easier to hold in the hands than the larger third-generation iPad. This is going to make it easier to use with one hand, something that many people who have been wanting a smaller version of the device have requested.

The device doesn’t come with the powerful A6X processor that is seen in the iPad 3, and this is something that is probably going to disappoint many buyers. That said, the device is available for just £269, which is very reasonable, and would probably not be achievable if the company decided to install the latest processor. That said, it does offer great performance if you are just browsing the web, downloading apps, and even gaining, and the lack of powerful processor is not going to disappoint most users.

Overall, with this device released just in time to Christmas, it is sure to be a popular gift this year. Even if it doesn’t have the retina display, or powerful processor, that some other items in Apples range have, it is still going to appeal to a certain section of the market.
